Lamont Patterson: Lifting Up The Talented
WORLD MOVEMENT RECORDS

WORLD MOVEMENT RECORDS operates under the foundational principle that music serves as a driving force. Lamont Patterson, the Chief Executive Officer and founder of the label, exemplifies this creed in his daily activities.
Artist Development and Musical Background
Mr. Patterson’s musical journey commenced at the age of five when he began singing in his church choir. He later transitioned to the tenor saxophone, influenced by esteemed jazz musicians such as John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, and Roland Kirk. Following high school, he received mentorship from his cousin, Bobby Sanders, who managed notable groups including Little Anthony and The Imperials and The Young Hearts. This experience allowed Mr. Patterson to engage in singing, dancing, and choreography, significantly motivating him to pursue a music career. During his college years, he sang as a second tenor and contributed lyrics to the R&B group New Birth, which toured alongside prominent artists like the O’Jays, Blue Magic, and The Four Tops. As his musical proficiency expanded, Mr. Patterson became increasingly drawn to the operational aspects of the music industry. His inaugural group, The Elements of Peace, an R&B ensemble produced by Aaron Neville, showcased his talents as both lead vocalist and tenor saxophonist. This endeavor facilitated collaboration with Grammy Award-winning artists such as Aaron Neville, Quincy Jones, Marvin Gaye, Ike Turner, and Tina Turner, thereby providing him with invaluable insights into music production.

Establishment of WORLD MOVEMENT RECORDS
In response to the industry’s tendency to compel artists to alter their musical styles in favor of emerging trends, Mr. Patterson established WORLD MOVEMENT RECORDS in 1990. The label quickly became a sanctuary for artists to express their authentic identities. Under his stewardship, many artists achieved significant success, resulting in Platinum Records for Ghetto Hippie and Bobby Caldwell, as well as a Gold Album for Jeffrey Osborne, Prince, and Morris Day through Warner Bros. As the music industry evolved, Mr. Patterson adapted to the digital landscape, expanding the label’s support to include comprehensive services such as music distribution, merchandising, publishing, and opportunities in television and film. Notably, Pretty Tony pioneered the publication of books through World Movement Publishing, followed by the release of compilation CDs featuring artists such as West Coast Bangaz, Volumes 1 and 2, and Coast Ridaz.
Talent Development Initiatives
Mr. Patterson has been instrumental in organizing community events, including The Pop Kids Program, The Rising Stars Youth Showcase, Rock the Economy, and The Rising Stars Industry Showcase, which aim to unite artists across diverse genres for a shared objective. Mr. Patterson holds a steadfast belief that music serves as a universal language and has further diversified his endeavors in the realm of motion picture production.
