Congresswoman Maxine Waters Secures $2.05 Million in Federal Funding for Compton College Facilities Improvements

The Compton Community College District (CCCD) is pleased to announce U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (CA, 43rd District) has secured $2.05 million in federal Community Project Funding to support critical facilities improvements at Compton College, strengthening learning environments and advancing student success.
Community Project Funding is a House‑led appropriations process that allows individual members of Congress to request federal funding for specific projects located in their congressional districts.

The recently awarded funding, included in the federal fiscal year budgets for 2024 and 2026, will support renovations to two key campus facilities:
- The Math and Science (MIS) Building ($1.2 million), and
- The Vocational Technology Building ($850,000)

“This investment represents a meaningful step forward for Compton College and the students we serve,” said Juanita Doplemore, president of the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees. “Modern, safe, and accessible facilities are essential to student success, and we are grateful to Congresswoman Waters for her continued advocacy on behalf of the students and communities served by our district.”

“As the representative for California’s 43rd Congressional District, Rep. Maxine Waters is the only House of Representatives member authorized to submit Community Project Funding requests on behalf of Compton College,” said Keith Curry, CEO of the Compton Community College District. “We are extremely grateful for her long-standing commitment to Compton College, support of equity and access for its students, and continued advocacy for underserved communities.”
Together, these improvements will address aging infrastructure while enhancing accessibility, sustainability, safety, and instructional capacity in Compton College facilities that serve high‑demand academic and workforce programs.
Renovations to the Math and Science (MIS) Building will extend the life cycle of this valuable campus asset by modernizing instructional and technology‑support spaces essential to student learning. As the District plans to construct a new science building for the college, the Math and Science (MIS) Building is expected to become an instructional building for math. The total budget for the MIS project is $3 million. Upgrades to the Vocational Technology Building will enhance workforce‑aligned instructional environments that prepare students for careers critical to the regional economy; the project budget is $19.9 million supported through a mix of the 2014 Measure C Bond, the 2024 Measure CC Bond, and federal Community Project Funding.
“I am so proud to have secured more than $2 million in federal funding to enable Compton College to renovate the Math and Science (MIS) Building and the Vocational Technology Building,” said Congresswoman Waters. “I look forward to seeing the dedicated faculty and talented students at Compton College make use of these newly renovated facilities to achieve their educational goals.”
Congresswoman Waters has a long‑standing record of securing federal resources for educational institutions across California’s 43rd Congressional District. Her leadership in the federal appropriations process continues to support equitable access to education and workforce opportunity in the communities she represents.
