Mike Gipson Joins California State Assembly Members to Denounce the Supreme Court Decision on ICE Raids

by Charles Jackson Jr.

LOS ANGELES, CA Several California State Assembly members held a press conference on Friday, September 12, in Sacramento to criticize the US Supreme Court’s decision that allows federal agents to racially profile residents in the Los Angeles ICE raids. This ruling grants ICE and other federal agents the authority to arrest and deport individuals suspected of being undocumented residents.

Mike Gipson, Assemblymember for the 65th District, was particularly vocal in his criticism of the Supreme Court decision. He stated, “I stand in strong solidarity with the legislative Black Caucus, the Latino Caucus, and all other caucuses. The ruling is wrong, plain and simple, and we denounce the Supreme Court for what amounts to a backroom deal made on behalf of the President of the United States.”

He continued, “This reminds me of what happened to Black people during the 1950s and 1960s—walking down the street, while Black, when individuals were kidnapped and lynched. We witnessed those events, and they were chronicled in our history books. This dark chapter is part of the very fabric of the United States of America, as revealed in a book called Project 2025. We stand in solidarity and will push back against this administration. To have what is happening in Third-World countries —where individuals in masks jump out of vehicles to kidnap people—is wrong there, and it is wrong here in the United States.”

Mike Gipson emphasized, “We will do everything within our power in California to fight back against these kinds of attacks on people simply because of their skin color. It’s wrong, it’s wrong, it’s wrong. And to this president, who is a convicted felon—let’s call it out—how dare he attack the very fabric of what makes California great! The immigrant community is part of what makes up America, and what makes California great. How dare he take children, the most vulnerable among us, off our streets and out of our communities? We denounce him, and we denounce the United States Supreme Court.”

Assemblymember Gipson expressed his anger about the Supreme Court decision, demonstrating that he is a leader who stands firmly against injustice in his community. A former City Councilman in Carson, he has a long history of advocating for all California communities.
