By Marion Apio

Job seekers can connect with approximately 30 employers and explore career opportunities at the Community Career Expo on Tuesday, Sept. 30, from noon to 4 p.m. at the America’s Job Center of California (AJCC) Rancho Dominguez, 2909 Pacific Commerce Drive, Rancho Dominguez.

The event is hosted by AJCC Rancho Dominguez, which is operated by Kra Corporation under the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity.

“We’re excited to invite you to join us at our upcoming Community Career Expo as a guest and partner,” said Ashley Bright, the AJCC’s community engagement specialist, adding that the event is a key opportunity to “connect, network, and engage with job seekers, employers, and other community organizations.”

This marks the second year that AJCC Rancho Dominguez has hosted the career expo, which is held quarterly, according to Donna Eissoh, the AJCC’s business service manager. This year’s event has seen an increase in participation, with roughly 30 employers and community organizations registered, up from 20 last year, Eissoh said. Organizers expect about 90 job seekers, a threefold increase from the usual 30 attendees.

Recruiters from sectors including health care, logistics, security, higher education, and skilled trades are scheduled to attend. Participating organizations include Kidron Health, Allied Universal, California State University, Dominguez Hills, Arosa, and International Paper.

Eissoh noted that the event welcomes candidates for all job levels, from entry-level roles to management positions. Attendees are encouraged to bring resumes and dress professionally, as some employers plan to conduct interviews and extend offers on site.

While advance online registration is available, the expo is open to the public and does not require pre-registration. Eissoh cited a measurable impact from past events, stating that clients who attend usually see a “50 to 70% higher hire rate” compared to those who do not.

AJCC officials noted they are working with the city of Compton regarding potential participation, but the city is not formally organizing the event. However, the organization continues to partner with the city.

The career expo takes place as the local, state and national job markets see varying unemployment rates. In Compton, the unemployment rate stood at 7.4% in July 2025 (YCharts).

This is higher than the statewide unemployment rate for California, which was 5.5% in August 2025 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). The national unemployment rate was 4.3% in August 2025 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
