Weekly Question: What is one of your best memories of the City?
By Marion Apio and Kori Rogers
Blessing (Graduate student at Cal State Los Angeles) “I live in Crenshaw, Los Angeles, and the best thing about it is how close I am to everything — like the mall — and how easy it is to get to Santa Monica. I’m a graduate student at Cal State LA, graduating in two months, and that’s exciting as well.”

Ebenezer (Registered Nurse) “I live in Inglewood. My best memory in LA was joining a soccer team and helping take it from eighth place all the way to the finals. We didn’t win, but we played better and made the team stronger — that’s my favorite memory.”
Jonathan (28, Electrician) “I go to the Church of Pentecost. My best memory in LA was joining a local soccer team — it was a random group, but I love soccer. My friends and I made it all the way to the finals. We lost, but it was such a good experience to share that journey together.”

Emmanuella (Medical student at UC Irvine School of Medicine) “My favorite thing about the city is the community and the culture. There’s a real sense of connection and diversity that makes the city special.”

Jacobs ( Hairstylist from Inglewood, California) “Best memory, Manhattan Beach, going there in the morning and just lying down, going to sleep, listening to the California waves. It brings me peace, joy, and it reminds me that I made the right decision moving here, which brings me to relax, reflect, and have some clarity.”

Trianna (Holistic Esthetician born and raised in California) “My best memory is living in the city. Everything used to be fun, clubbing, and popping in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, and that’s what I miss about it. The skating ring and soda pop club a kids’ and teenagers’ club. It brought so much joy.”

Rozz (Business owner of Good Time Ruckers) Owning this black shop has been really good for me, coming from the south. This makes me feel like I worked all my life.

Adam ( Cook/Street vendor on Manchester and Western) “My best memory would be the Lakers parade back when Kobe and Pau won the championship. It makes me feel nostalgic and brings me back to when I was younger because I grew up a Lakers fan.”

Jay (Football coach from Inglewood california) “My best memory living in the city is anytime the community comes together like Taste of Soul type of events where we all come to together it’s mostly a good time, get to meet new people, and meet people you thought you never had something in common, and networking and build resumes with people that act and look like you.”
