SHEENA HUTCHINGSON GRADUATES FROM CSU DOMINGUEZ HILLS in JOURNALISM

Sheena Hutchinson is a multimedia journalist, videographer, and photographer with a Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills. She graduated in Journalism this spring with the Class of 2024.

Sheena is also City Pride Magazine’s Assistant Editor and is deeply passionate about leading the editing team and bringing exciting content and storytelling to Los Angeles. She is the new face of media in LA and the Southern California area. As an intern, Sheena has become an expert in her field and has gained a lot of experience reporting and interviewing at events and activities in the inner city. Sheena seeks out stories highlighting the community’s positive side and aims to inform people about resources and services in their neighborhood.

She is already a talented young reporter with a strong command of camera use and excels at interviewing. “I love covering untold stories within the community about entertainment, lifestyle, culture, music, and much more,” says Sheena. “I enjoy bringing new story angles and connecting with new people through my writing. I always knew I’d become a journalist. I was passionate about writing, storytelling, and listening to other people’s stories. When I was 11, I constantly carried my camera around—especially the classic handheld camera at every family reunion and gathering. I remember recording the entire event and would walk up to my family members and interview them. If I wasn’t hosting interviews, I was taking pictures and creating memories for myself, which I still look back at through my many photo albums.”

“My educational journey has not always been easy,” Sheena explains. “However, I believed in myself, stayed dedicated to school, accomplished my goals, and graduated with my degree in Journalism. I couldn’t have done it without the support from my husband and family.”

In addition to her media skills, Sheena is learning leadership, marketing, and advertisement sales strategies. As a manager, she is learning to be a corporate representative and negotiate with other corporate executives. Her goal is to be a top personality in media and lead a multi-billion dollar communication and media empire. She envisions making City Pride Magazine global and building jobs and offices worldwide. Look for Sheena to have her talk show covering entertainment, sports, politics, health, education, spiritual concerns, and other topics important to the community, providing information and resources. The target date for the City Pride Magazine “Sheena Show” is February 2025, and there are big plans for preparing for the 2028 LA Olympics with an Inner-City media team.

“If I can give any advice, it would be to never give up on your dreams. Find something you like, stick to it, and perfect your craft. The best thing one can do is invest much of one’s time into one’s passion and always stay dedicated. Along the way, take full advantage of any resources in front of you, and don’t be afraid to ask for help, whether it be from your family, friends, or school staff,“ states Sheena.
