CUSD Board Member Alma Taylor Pleasant Opens School Boutique at Dominguez High School

On February 14, 2025, City Pride Magazine attended the opening of Alma’s CUSD Boutique at Dominguez High School. The pioneering initiative is to help provide scholars with complimentary access to clothing just in time for Valentine’s Day.

CUSD Board Member Alma Taylor Pleasant has been working on this project for six months and is now ready to welcome scholars just in time for Valentine’s Day. The Boutique will provide students with a variety of clothing and accessories. But this unique space offers more than just clothing; it fosters dignity, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Several community members, CUSD administrators, board members, and staff attended the grand opening, including Satra Zurita, Cliff and Delores Williams, Jackie Venters, and many more. This incredible clothing store allows students to “purchase” brand-new jackets, shirts, pants, shoes, and accessories using Alma’s Bucks, earned from their principal or teachers. More than just fashion, this boutique is about confidence, dignity, and belonging. As Ms. Taylor-Pleasant says, “If a kid dresses good and looks good, they feel good.” And she’s just getting started—her goal is to open boutiques at all Compton Unified high schools!

Huge shoutout to Alma for bringing this vision to life—because every scholar deserves to look and feel their best!
