4 CUSD Students Receive Bludso’s BBQ Scholarships
Four Compton Unified students from each of the four high schools received a scholarship from Bludso’s BBQ. They were awarded the scholarship at a recent Compton Unified Board Meeting.
Jashon Finley from Compton High School, Harper Mills from Dominguez High School, Leeonti Hampton from Compton Early College High School, and Darius Fisher from Centennial High School each received $1,000 from Bludso’s BBQ. During the Board Meeting, the four were asked to briefly introduce themselves and talk about what they wanted to do with their lives.
Kevin Bludso, founder and owner of Bludso’s BBQ, was born and raised in Compton and was excited to give back to his community with this scholarship. In 2008, Kevin opened Bludso’s BBQ, a small walk-up stand in the heart of Compton.
Today he has restaurants in Santa Monica and La Brea. In addition, he’s a recurring judge on the hit Netflix BBQ competition show The American BBQ Showdown, and has multiple television appearances on shows like Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Bong Appetit, and is a recurring guest judge on Bar Rescue.
