A young Diddley Squatt, a gifted guitarist with a revolutionary style, embarks on his first electrifying journey through the Chitlin’ Circuit. The late 1950s/early 1960s backdrop adds a layer of historical significance to his experiences, as he navigates a world rife with racial prejudice and the cutthroat realities of the music industry. Accompanied by his talking squirrel, Sly, Diddley encounters a colorful cast of characters – seasoned blues musicians, a comedic act, and a fiery R&B duo – each adding their own unique flavor to his adventure. He faces significant setbacks, including a physical altercation with a jealous rival and a deliberate attempt to sabotage his career. Yet, through it all, Diddley’s resilience and unwavering spirit shine. He forms an unlikely friendship with a mute roadie, finds strength in his fellow performers, loves traveling on the bus and meeting migrant workers and everybody, and uses his experiences to fuel his creativity, culminating in a powerful, collaborative performance that leaves the audience spellbound. However, the triumph is short-lived. A looming hurricane and a family crisis force an abrupt end to the tour, leaving Diddley with a bittersweet mix of success and heartbreak as he heads back home, his future uncertain but his spirit undaunted.
