Compton Community Reaching Out To Help Fire Victims
Residents of the Compton community are coming together to support the victims of the Eaton wildfires. On Tuesday, January 28th, dozens of volunteers gathered to provide supplies, connect with fire victims, and organize services for families affected by the devastating wildfires in Altadena. Their efforts took place at the Crystal Hotel in Compton, where they distributed food, supplies, and essential items to those who had lost everything. The Crystal Hotel generously allowed its lobby area for the distribution of these supplies and provided rooms for fire victims in need of shelter.
Helen Mei, the manager of the Crystal Hotel, is working with Compton City Councilman Andre Spicer, Greater Zion Baptist Church Pastor Michael Fisher, and several community organizations, who have formed a group called Project Uplift. In addition to distributing necessary resources, they also offer free hotel rooms for three weeks at the Crystal Hotel to support those impacted by the wildfires.
Helen Mei stated, “On behalf of the hotel, we are pleased to announce that we will be donating 20 rooms for seven days to the victims of the Eaton fire. We aim to lead by example in the hotel industry and inspire others to support fire victims as well. Having been a part of the Compton area for many years, we recently restored our entire hotel, and we are proud to offer a beautiful place to stay. Our accommodations include great rooms and a complimentary breakfast each morning. Additionally, we have a recreation area and a swimming pool. We are also located near a major shopping center. We have been actively collaborating with the Compton community. We are grateful for the support of Councilman Spicer, Pastor Fisher, and other community members in our efforts to assist the fire victims.”
