Clinton Elementary in Compton Hosted Governor Newsom’s Press Conference


California Governor Gavin Newsom visited Clinton Elementary School for a special press conference celebrating Compton Unified’s progress in literacy and outlining the state’s bold next steps in supporting student achievement.

A highlight of the day was the Governor’s interaction with students—taking time to speak with them and even read aloud—creating an unforgettable experience for Clinton’s young learners.
At the press conference, he unveiled the Golden State Literacy Plan, which builds on successful initiatives like the Literacy Coaches and Reading Specialists (LCRS) Grant, already supporting over 800 schools statewide.
The press conference also highlighted the Superintendent’s Cohort to Move the Needle on Test Scores—a bold, data-driven effort designed to improve the academic outcomes of over 2 million students statewide.
