Attorney Kree D. Filer just announced the opening of her private law practice effective February 1, 2021. The young lawyer states, “This has been my lifelong dream….to follow in the footsteps of my grandfather and father! I look forward to having my own cases to work on and having my own clients to fight for. I also know that a private law practice is a business and respect the challenges and opportunities that will be presented in this endeavor.”

Attorney Filer attended undergraduate school at UC Santa Cruz, graduating in 2012 with a BA in Women’s Studies. In 2016, she attended Loyola Law School where she received her JD Degree. Immediately after graduating, she began her legal career as an associate attorney in her cousin’s law office, Filer | Palmer, LLP located in Long Beach. Over the last 18 months,  she has worked as a staff attorney with the non-profit legal agency, The Los Angeles Dependency Lawyers (LADL), where she handles complex dependency matters at the Edelman Children’s Courthouse. She is grateful for the experience and feels she is ready to, “Branch out on my own!” she states.

Attorney Filer is proud to say that she is one of a long line of Filer lawyers. Her grandfather was Maxcy D. Filer, a well-known civil rights activist and former member of the Compton City Council. Maxcy Filer’s name is etched in the legal history books for his perseverance. Over the course of 24 years and  48 attempts of taking the California Bar exam, he finally passed and became a full-fledged lawyer. “My Grandpa’s determination reminds me that we should never give up on our dreams!” Her father, Judge Kelvin D. Filer, who presides over criminal cases in the Compton Courthouse, had his private practice also located in Compton before ascending to the bench. Kree says, “My father – to this day – still talks about how much fun he had trying serious felony cases in court!”

Attorney Kree Filer will have a general private practice, with a focus on criminal defense, dependency cases, and civil litigation. “I know that I love the theater of the courtroom and I am not afraid to take on legal challenges. I am committed to providing the best legal representation on behalf of all of my clients. I particularly want to help those who are most in need and, in that way, make a positive contribution to our community.”

“When you are faced with legal trouble, just go with the FLO!”
