What began as a backyard comedy skit, Comptonmania, has now become a city-funded annual event in the City of Compton.
De’Shawn Sho Tyme Watkins and his friends and partners hosted their 3rd annual Comptonmania wrestling tournament on October 22nd, 2022. Sponsored by Councilman Andre Spicer of District 2, the event took place at the Douglass Dollarhide Community Center in Compton, CA.
“There’s a lot of positive things that go on in the city,” Watkins states, who started the event to bring people together and shift Compton’s common narrative. “We wanted to do something free for the city so we could continue to make this the norm.”
Comptonmania is actively involved in the City of Compton, hosting and attending giveaways and performances throughout the city. They’ll feature matches at the upcoming All Southern California Wrestling’s Winter Wonderland on December 3rd. For more information, visit their website.
