Compton, Calif, April 9 – Assemblymember Mike Gipson hosted a COVID-19 vaccination distribution of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine, in the parking lot of the Crystal Casino in Compton, CA on April 9, 2021.
The FDA approved of the Janssen vaccine’s use on February 27, 2021, for individuals 18 and older.
“It’s critical in the black and brown community that we do everything we can to inoculate against this pandemic,” Gipson states. “We’re trying to tear down barriers and walls of understanding so that people understand that the way we get back to normal is by getting a shot in the arm.”
Along with Assemblymember Gipson was Councilwoman Emma Sharif, Councilwoman Tona McCoy, members from the Central Neighborhood Health Foundation, and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America.
“We don’t care if you have insurance, all we care about is you come down here and get inoculated. We want you to do it for your loved ones, family and friends; and, the only way you can do that, is by getting inoculated.”
Gipson and his associates distributed vaccines to all of the employees at the Crystal Casino. Free vaccination appointments for the nearby 24 Hour Fitness and Best Buy were also arranged.
They plan to continue to set up free vaccination sites at the Crystal Casino so that all residents of the 64th district are able to access the Janssen vaccine.
